一人歩きGNU かと思いきや
RMS(Richard M. Stallman)の活動に加わりたいので、GNUのページからGNU Volunteer Coordinatorsというのを見つけてメールしてみた｡その前日にGNU Japanのサイトを管理してる人にもメールしたけど変事がなかったので本家にいってみることにした｡

Hi. I read RMS's speach yesterday on the Internet and I
was deeply impressed by the GNU activities and I am willing
to contribute to your activities.
I am a PhD student studying Elementary Particle Physics,
which involves much programming. However, as it is on the
top of your list, I am firstly more interested in doing translation
work. I am Japanese and since I have been in London for several years
now, I think I can do translations to a satisfactory (hopefully)
level. I found the RMS's speach via YAMAGATA Hiroo's website,
who seems to be involved much in translating GNU activities and
if there's still more need for such works, I am happy to do that.
If you think that side of work is less urgent for Japanese audience,
I am also willing to do them too.
Yesterday, I checked http://www.gnu.org/japan/ and it says it's not been
updated for 6 years!! So I sent an e-mail to Mieko Hikichi, who
seems to be in charge of this page but haven't received any responce
as yet. I am happy to do this work to start with, if you think
it is a necessary issue.
So could you please direct me for the best way you think I should
contribute to your projects from your organizational point
of view? I am looking foward to hearing from you.

ところでGNU Japan は http://www.gnu.org/japan/ がメインかと思いきや、もっと最近まで管理されてる http://www.gnu.org/home.ja.html というのもある。
更に他にも情報がいろいろあるけれど、返事をくれないのが何故なのかはよくわからない｡｡

There's a lot of translation to be done, and we'd appreciate your
help. Please understand that it's more helpful to write new
documentation than translate existing docs, but again we would
appreciate any help that you can offer.
There are many different things to translate, but two of the more
obvious catgories are program text, and web pages. The home page of
the effort to translate program text is the Translation Project at
http://www.iro.umontreal.ca/contrib/po/HTML/. If you click on the
"Language Teams" link you can find out how to connect with your team.
If you'd like to help translate the GNU project web pages then The GNU
Translation Coordinators can help you get started. Their project page
is http://savannah.gnu.org/projects/trans-coord/. According to the
web translation readme file the JA translation team is headed by
Masayuki Hatta (mhatta@gnu.org) so you might want to send him an email
and indicate that you'd like to help. He'll be more up-to-date on
what pages need to be translated into Japanese.

Hmmm, that page seems to be out of date, I believe that the correct
page is http://www.gnu.org/home.ja.html , which was updated in July of
this year. I'll let the webmasters know about the old page so they
can decide what to do with it.

というわけで、メーリングリストに登録｡Translation Top Pageも読んでみた｡翻訳で、いいのかな？まぁとりあえず翻訳してみよう｡そこからいろいろ先が見えてくるかもしれない｡。
